Drabble tag

In the interests of increasing the number of pairings written for this fandom - anyone up for a game of drabble tag? I've played this a couple of times in Buffy fandom (and ran the truly epic buffyverse1000): the object is that you start with one or a few pairings (and maybe prompts). Someone writes a drabble for one and suggests 3 more pairings. And so on.

So you would have, for example:

drabble drabble drabble...and then Tegan and Jamie done sex.

Next request: Four/Ian, Leela/Romana, Jack/Rose/Eight

Anyone fancy it and could suggest some pairings/prompts to get us started? I'm procrastinating wildly on ficathon assignments.

ETA: Right, we have some prompts!

Due to the massive size of the links/requests list, it has been moved to its own post

Ficlets don't have to be exactly 100 words but they do need to fit into an LJ comment. It's okay to duplicate a pairing but try not to (threesomes and upwards are allowed and encouraged)

Note: in the interests of giving all companions equal chance of slutting it up with as many Doctors as possible, this community's usual restrictions on Nine/Rose, Ten/Rose, Nine/Jack and Ten/Jack will be waived for this game...

Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

sorry for the double post. also for the slightly epic quality this took on.

Five years on and she misses him so much it aches in her chest, lungs burning. She hasn't left England for more than a weekend trip to Spain and the ground under her feet is the same every day, dull and dark.

She ends up in a small town investigating local disturbances that turn out to be an alien that eats cars, and quite literally runs into Benton, dear Benton, after all this time.

"Miss Smith," he says, giving her his handkerchief so she can brush herself off, ever the gentleman soldier, even when wearing a slightly tacky polyester suit and hustling for commissions.

"Are you undercover?" she asks a flicker of excitement building, and she blushes hard when his face falls a little bit, explanations of poor pensions and sick sisters falling in a rush from his lips.

"I'm very good at this, though," he says proudly. "Would you like to see one of our latest arrivals?"

Sarah laughs, feeling lighter and freer than she has in ages. "No, but I can use your military training," she whispers, and they're off together, plotting and fighting like old times, and when she reaches out at one point and takes his hand he's a little startled, but doesn't protest, merely wrapping his fingers around hers.

Later, the alien is defeated and they've gone for a drive, parking under the moon and Sarah spills her heart out, her loss and her loneliness and her fear that nothing, nothing will ever be as good again. Benton listens carefully and doesn't interrupt. When she finishes, he leans over and kisses her, gentle but firm.

She pulls back, a little frightened by the intimacy. "I don't…I don't know if I can do that," she says, apologetically.

"Sarah Jane Smith," Benton says, "Are you going to tell me that a girl like you is going to spend the rest of her life hiding away, afraid of her own shadow?"

She smiles then, bright and sunny like she used to, like he remembers, and leans over to kiss him back.

"For the record," she says, much later, "I'm not a girl."

"Yes, Miss Smith," Benton says, with a smirk. "I'll drive you home now, ma'am."

She laughs and swats him on the arm as he starts the car, and they drive away into the early dawn light. Their easy chatter trails behind them, fluttering in the wind, and Sarah knows that it'll be over when the sun comes up, that this isn't meant to last. Now, she knows, it's up to her.

She earns two promotions and takes three trips the next year, to Iceland and India and Peru, and she sends Benton the same postcard from each one.

Wish you were here, she writes, I'm having a wonderful time.

Back in his office, Benton dutifully affixes them over his desk, and goes out to meet another customer. He has a bounce in his step and he sells more cars than anyone else. Behind his eyes, a pretty girl smiles, and smiles, and smiles.

Next: Three/alt!Liz from Inferno, Martha/Harry, Steven/Dodo

Re: Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

Awww, this is quite delightful.

Re: Benton/Sarah

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! It sort of took on a life of its own as I started writing it. :)

Re: Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

That is so sweet, I really love this.

Re: Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I really enjoyed the pairing, thank you for requesting it. :)

“But Steven-.”

“Come on, Dodo. Now just sit down.”

Dodo had been pacing the cell like a caged tiger. The Doctor had been taken, under strong protest, to be tested. Now Steven and Dodo were waiting their turn.

“At least it’s dry and warm,” said Steven helpfully.

Dodo stared at him. “At least it’s not a dungeon, is that what you’re saying?”

“Exactly. Now sit down.”

She sat next to him on the metallic floor, and leaned back against the steel wall.

“Now, all we can do is wait.”

“I can’t believe you’re sitting there and accepting this.”

He stared at her. “There’s no door, Dodo. Not even a crack where one would be. The only way out is if they come to get us. So, we might as well save our energies to make a break for it when they do finally decide to let us out.”

“Ooo, I hate it when you’re reasonable.”

Steven kissed the top of her head. “No, you don’t.”

Re: Steven/Dodo

Oh, yay! Thank you so much for writing this. I was feeling sad that neither of them had gotten any love from the tag so far. I really like Steven and think Dodo is just fine, and they were certainly cute together from what I have seen. And this? This is adorably adorably cute. :D

Re: Steven/Dodo

Steven and Dodo are love. I'm glad you approve!

Martha/Harry, double drabble

"I tell you, you don't know what you're dealing with, Miss Jones."

It was the condescending tone of the older man that got Martha's back up. How dare he sound overly-polite and insult her at the same time. She stared at him over the patient but that was not enough on its own to make him back down.

"Yes, I do, it's an alien. I don't know where it's from or whether it's hostile, but it's come to my hospital and therefore I'm going to to help it. Do you have a problem with that?"

"Um, no. No, of course not. I'll help you." He smiled.

She would have spurned his offer except that there was no-one else here who would believe her story and she could not do this on her own. So she said, "okay," and they got to work.

Afterwards, when they were both tired, she was grateful for his offer to buy a penniless medical student a drink and they swapped stories of Daleks and Doctors. By the end of the night she realised she had actually come to like him and was looking for an opportunity to spend more time in his company.

Requests: Harry/Harriet Jones, girl!Doctor/Ten, girl!Doctor/Harry

Re: Martha/Harry, double drabble

Oh, this is really nice - funny and sweet, too.

(girl!Doctor/Ten is a fantastic prompt, too!)

Re: Martha/Harry, double drabble

Thank you - on both counts!

Re: Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

Oooh, this is lovely! And plausible, even. Yay Benton! :D

Re: Benton/Sarah, now without bad HTML

Thank you very much! I'm glad to hear it comes off plausibly too, because it's sort of tricky writing post-Doctor Sarah after School Reunion. But I had to try, because it's Benton. :D
